Jay Bolusan

Motion Pictures & Television – Cinematography / Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA)

School of Motion Pictures & Television

I’m Jarriel “Jay” Bolusan, I was born and raised in San Jose,
California; and I am a Filipino-American Cinematographer & Camera
Operator. I am a United States Marine Corps Veteran with experience
as a California Peace Officer. I am also the founder of 141 Films and
an active Associate Member of the Society of Camera Operators [SOC].
I’ve always loved movies and my passion for filmmaking started when I
was a young boy – making family videos with a camcorder, short films
based on vision & creating stories from my own imagination. I
consider myself blessed to have a family that always supported my
passions. In 2023, I applied to the Academy of Art University, Motion
Picture & Television where I began my path into Cinematography.
I’ve learned how to be a 1st and 2nd AC, Director of Photography, &
Camera Operator throughout my first year AAU MPT. I got to learn with
brilliant and like-minded filmmakers whom I consider my friends.
Thereon, I’ve always loved being on set with the Camera Crew –
building our skill sets and cohesively working together as a team. I
always consider myself a student at heart because I am constantly
learning no matter the levels of experience I’ve gained thus far.
Cinema is magic to me, and I firmly believe in the power of
storytelling with visual art & filmmaking. I’ve always been known as
the quiet kid, or even soft-spoken; however, it was filmmaking that
helped me find my voice. I aspire to be a Camera Operator within the
film industry as a part of the International Cinematographers Guild,
Local 600. Pursuing the path of a Cinematographer inspired me to give
people the chance to see what I see, and I hope to make more films
come to life from my creativity and imagination.
